Columbus and surrounding area residents may stop in and apply for a library card anytime during open hours. In order to complete the application you must provide a name, address, main phone number, second contact number, personal reference with number, a photo ID, and 2 letters showing correct address (such as gas and electric bills).
There will be a verification process before a patron is allowed to checkout materials. 2 materials can then be checked out for the first 3 visits. After that, general checkout policies apply.
Kids under 16 without a photo ID may get a library card, but a parent or guardian MUST make their own account as well so that we can verify the addresses.
Besides your local library card, all Kansas residents can register for a state library card. This will give you access to multiple online resources such as e-books, audiobooks, journal articles, newspapers, and even Mango Languages, an online language learning system, for free.
This service is available only to Kansas residents, there is no age requirement, however young patrons will need a parent or guardian to request the card on their behalf. Kansas State Library Cards can be requested at the Columbus Public Library, we will be happy to set up an account for you!
